Drums

I was about eight years old when I started tapping out rhythms on my belly with my hands. When I would not stop, my parents got me a darbuka and a tef. I never took any percussion lessons back then, so before long they ended up sitting in a corner like toys.

Years later, in high school, my friends and I went to play Guitar Hero. Everyone grabbed the other instruments, so the drums were left to me. That was how I first met the drums.

In the winter of 2013 I started taking lessons in Samsun with Mehmet Serdar Celik. Of course I had no drum kit at home, so I built one out of pillows on the couch and practiced on that. Six months later I had to stop the lessons to prepare for university exams, but I kept taking the stage at various high school concerts.

For most of my university years I could not stay close to the drums. The real story of getting back to playing actively started with the band Minor Illusion, and Kroma came right after. Even though I have played music in different styles, my foundation comes from rock and especially metal drumming.

These days I play at local venues in Ankara and teach drum lessons.
